“Are You Smart Enough to be President of the United States?”

I can’t stop laughing right now. Why? Because I just watched a clip of MSNBC’s Kasie Hunt interviewing Governor Rick Perry. She actually asked him, “And are you smart enough to be President of the United States?”

Are you laughing now too?

What kind of preposterous question is that? No, really. Think about it for a second. First of all, how do you expect someone to answer such a ridiculous question? “Well, Kasie, I’m really not sure if I’m smart enough”? Come on, man.

Secondly, why are you asking him that? Is Hillary going to get the same line of questioning? Can you imagine Kasie Hunt sitting with Hillary Clinton and asking, “Hillary, are you smart enough to be President of the United States?”

No, you can’t. Because a) it would be idiotic and b) it would never happen.

If you book a successful governor on your show, show some respect by asking decent, tough questions. Otherwise, it’s embarrassing. For you. And hard to watch.

P.S.—Kudos to Rick Perry for not laughing in her face and giving a great answer: “Running for the presidency’s not an IQ test. It is a test of an individual’s resolve, it’s a test of an individual’s philosophy, it’s a test of an individual’s life experiences. And I think Americans are really ready for a leader that will give them a great hope about the future.”

Good for you, Rick. I would’ve had far too much fun with Kasie’s question if it had come my way.
