American Job Protection Act H.R. 903

AMAC is pleased to announce its support for another piece of important legislation, the “American Job Protection Act.”  Introduced by Rep. Charles Boustany (R-LA), H.R. 903 seeks to repeal the job-killing employer mandate that was instituted by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA or “ObamaCare”).  This troubling provision requires businesses with 50 or more full-time employees to provide government-approved health insurance to workers or face a stiff penalty for noncompliance.  Consequently, employers are choosing not to hire new workers, while the Federal government perversely dictates how businesses allocate their resources.  Recognizing the serious repercussions the employer mandate will continue to have on an economy struggling to create jobs, this critical piece of legislation returns authority to employers and encourages businesses to expand and hire desperate, job-seeking Americans.  AMAC firmly believes that small businesses spur American innovation and are essential to sustaining a strong economy.  With the delivery of this most recent letter of support, AMAC is proud to formally stand with Rep. Boustany to protect American jobs and generate the economic growth America needs.

The Honorable Charles Boustany, M.D.
3rd District, Louisiana
U.S. House of Representatives
1431 Longworth House Office Building
Washington, DC 20515

Dear Representative Boustany,

I am writing today on behalf of the 750,000 members of AMAC, the Association of Mature
American Citizens, to extend our support to H.R. 903, the “American Job Protection Act.” AMAC is pleased to see this bill introduced, as it seeks to unburden small businesses from the harmful impacts of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act’s (PPACA or “ObamaCare”) employer mandate.

At its inception, PPACA established troubling provisions pertaining to the implementation of health care nationwide, including an employer mandate that requires companies with 50 or more full-time employees to provide government-approved health insurance to workers. The consequence for not doing so is a stiff penalty. To comply with this cumbersome mandate, small businesses have been forced to significantly scale down their payrolls as they attempt to navigate a complex web of PPACA regulations. In fact, employers already contend with scores of regulations that complicate their ability to operate and manage their businesses. H.R. 903 justly repeals this job-killing mandate that incentivizes employers to refrain from hiring, while enabling the Federal government to dictate how businesses allocate their resources. Recognizing the serious repercussions the employer mandate will continue to have on an economy struggling to create jobs, this legislation returns authority to employers and encourages businesses to expand and hire desperate, job-seeking Americans.

Like many American citizens, AMAC firmly believes that small businesses spur American innovation and economic growth and should be able to create jobs free from excessive overreach by the Federal government. AMAC remains very concerned about how ObamaCare will affect small businesses as well as families, individuals, and mature Americans if thoughtful reforms – like this one – are not enacted. Thanks to your diligent concern for this issue, AMAC is proud to support H.R. 903, a critical legislative step to protect American jobs and generate the economic growth America needs.

Sincerely,
Dan Weber
President and Founder of AMAC
