Dear Majority Leader McConnell and Speaker Ryan,

On behalf of the 1.3 million members of AMAC, the Association of Mature American Citizens, I am writing in support of the Conference Report to H.R. 1, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. This Conference Report will provide millions of hardworking Americans with relief from our overly complicated and increasingly expensive tax system.

AMAC is pleased to see our Congressional leaders deliver on their promises to fix our broken tax system and provide real relief to middle-income families. Individually, every American will have more money in their pockets because this Conference Report reduces individual tax brackets, nearly doubles the standard deduction, and keeps vital deductions like the Medical Expense Deduction. On the corporate side, reducing the corporate tax rate to 21% and permitting a 20% deduction for “Main Street” businesses will spur economic growth and job hiring that will benefit millions of workers. AMAC is excited to see the innovative solutions and changes included in the Conference Report enacted beginning as early as next year.

Of all the provisions included in the Conference Report, AMAC is most supportive of the promise to finally repeal the Affordable Care Act’s Individual Mandate. Every year, millions of Americans are forced to pay a hefty monetary penalty to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) because they choose not to purchase health insurance. Even more disturbing, this tax disproportionately affects low and middle-income families who pay the penalty because purchasing insurance is not economically feasible for their family. AMAC has long-called for the repeal of this provision, and we are pleased to see this regressive tax up for complete and total repeal.

Quickly passing the Conference Report to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act will deliver real, meaningful tax reform to the American people. As an organization committed to representing the interests of mature Americans and seniors, AMAC is dedicated to ensuring senior citizens’ interests are protected. AMAC is pleased to offer our organization’s support for the Conference Report to H.R. 1, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, and calls on the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives to quickly pass this vital piece of legislation.
