AMAC Supports Bill to Expand the Use of Health Reimbursement Arrangements (HRA)

Dear Congressman Bishop,

On behalf of the 2.1 million members of AMAC – Association of Mature American Citizens, including over 4000 residing in NC-09, I write to offer our support for H.R. 5224, the Increasing Health Coverage Through HRAs Act.

AMAC members have long been supporters of alternatives to pay for health insurance coverage, including the use of Health Reimbursement Arrangements (HRA). HRAs are a win-win scenario for both employers and employees. They facilitate many more coverage options for employees while helping employers control their healthcare costs.

H.R. 5224 allows employees to purchase individual health insurance using an employer funded HRA. This way, they may avoid an expensive, one-size-fits-all offering of health insurance that is traditionally available to employees and secure coverage that suits the specific needs of themselves and their families. Your bill also codifies a Trump administration rule that includes protections for people with pre-existing conditions.

Integrating the use of HRAs within the individual health insurance market drastically expands choice for employees and gives them more control over their own healthcare. It will also drive down costs for small businesses, families, and individuals.
